Medieval education followed classical models (ancient Greece and Rome). At the most general it was divided in general and specific, the general course was comprised of the seven liberal arts, divided in two sequences. First the student had to master the (three) disciplines in the trivium: Grammar, Logic and rhetoric, from there it will pass to the quadrivium (four) disciplines: Arithmetic, geometry, music and astronomy. Once the student had mastered these seven subjects it could continue to a specific area of study: Law, medicine, theology, philosophy.
