I’m a student who excels in classes and wants to help others
Here we will represent hotdogs with (x) and hamburgers with (y)
This gives us a base equation of 5x+2y=27 for Josh
A base equation of 3x+4y=29.50
The first step in solving this equation is to determine what Y is so that we can find x
We would put each equation on top of one another so that we can cancel one out
Like this:
5x+2y=27
3x+4y=29.50
The next step is to multiply the top equation by -2 so that the Y will cancel out. This will gives us
-10x-4y=-54
3x+4y=29.5
we do common addition for both equations to get a final equation of
-7x=-24.5
we now divide by -7 to get x=3.5 which tells us each hotdog is $3.50
if you wanted to find y, we would plug in x to one of the original equations and plug in x and Divide again.
Hope this helps!
