Question

The sum of the ages of Wade and Alice is 54 years. 9 years ago, Wade's age was 2 times Alice's age. How old is Wade now?

Let us assume the age of Wade NOW is W years and the age of Alice NOW is A years,

W + A = 54 .............(1) the sum of their ages

9 years ago, Wade age was = W- 9

and Alice age was = A - 9

also at that time the relation between their ages was

W - 9 = 2 (A - 9 )

W - 9 = 2A - 18

W - 2A = - 9 ........(2)

Subtract equation 1 from 2

-3A = -63

A =21

Substitute the value of A in equation (1),

W +21 = 54

W = 33
