Question

A rectangular room is 4 times as long as it is wide, and its perimeter is 70 meters. Find the dimension of the room.

Answer 1

Let w = width then the length, l = 4w. To find the perimeter you add all the sides which gives

w + 4w + w + 4w = 70.

10w = 70

w = 7

then l = 4w = 4(7) = 28

The dimensions of the room are 7 x 28 meters

Say width is w

Then length is 4w

Perimeter = w + 4w + w + 4w = 10w

10w = 70

w = 70/10 = 7

Length = 4 x 7 = 28

So length 28m width 7 m. check 28 + 28 + 7 + 7 = 70
