Question

A rectangular room is  meters longer than it is wide, and its perimeter is  meters. Find the dimension of the room.

Find length, and width please.

Imagine a rectangle with width w and length l.

l = w+2 from the problem given.

We're also given that the perimeter is 20 meters.

Perimeter p = 2(width)+2(length) = 2w + 2 (w+2) = 20

2w+2w+4 = 20

4w+4 = 20

4w = 16

w = 4

l = w+2 = 4+2 = 6

width is 4 meters and length is 6 meters

2w+2(w+2)=20

2w+2w+4=20

4w=16

w=4

l=6

area=24
