You know, Nicole, it might help if you indicated what sort of reaction you have in mind. Are you oxidizing elemental C out of an impure iron alloy (open hearth process, but generates CO intermediately)? Decomposing iron carbonyl, with (catalysed) oxidation of the carbon monoxide? It seems unlikely that conditions forcing the oxidation of carbon to carbon dioxide would permit the simultaneous generation of unoxidized iron.... just sayin'! -- Mr. d.02/07/21
