Let's figure out x first. We know the opposite and adjacent sides for <x so we need to use tan.
tan(x) = 40/20. So we take the inverse tan of both sides to get x by itself. tan-1(40/20) = 63.4 degrees.
The acute angles in a right triangle are complementary so y = 90 - x. y = 26.6 degrees.
