As an addition to this problem try finding the equations of the other two medians and solve for the point of intersection of those medians. You will find that all three medians have the same point of intersection, i.e. they are concurrent.
This is true of the perpendicular bisectors of all three sides, the angle bisectors of all three angles, and the altitudes from all three vertices. And those different kinds of points of intersection have names, like incenter, circumcenter, centroid, and orthocenter.
