A. While I can't think of an exact diagnosis, I know it's health-related, not behavioral for the following reasons.
- Hypertension can result in Dementia and Mild Cognitive Impairment, as well as kidney failure and scarring. Poorly controlled diabetes mellitus also leads to kidney problems. I would think it's a form of dementia, but as a behavior analyst, we don't do medical diagnoses.
B. Behaviorally, I would say his behavior is typical to someone suffering from those medical issues. This varies from someone with a behavioral issues, as it requires medical intervention. Most clients I have that require medication to treat disorders use the medication to allow more typical daily functioning, so that behavioral interventions can be put in place. This seems as completely treatable through medication and proper self-care.
Regarding his mental health exam, its not uncommon for a consumer to be highly non-compliant. From what I've learned from colleagues working with psychiatric hospital patients, they medication the assumed mental disorder to calm behaviors, then assess from there. This case would require 1st medicating for his physical conditions first, ruling them out, then assessing mental concerns.
It's not a direct answer, but I hope it helps with finding the final answer you need.
