Indefinite Articles in Spanish

1. In English there are three indefinite articles: a, an, some
2. In Spanish there are four indefinite articles: un, una, unos, unas

     EXAMPLES:

3.      Singular masculine nouns are preceded by “un”

4.      Singular feminine nouns are preceded by “una”.

 

un perro (a dog)                      una manzana (an apple)

un libro (a book)                     una mesa (a table)

1. “Unos” precedes masculine plural nouns.
2. “Unas” precedes feminine plural nouns.

EXAMPLES:

unos perros (some dogs)                   unas manzanas (some apples)

      unos libros (some books)                   unas mesas (some tables)

Indefinite: UN - UNA - UNOS - UNAS (In English equivalent to: a - an - some)

Definite: EL - LA - LOS - LAS (In English equivalent to: the)

UN: masculine singular Ej. Un niño en la escuela habla mucho (A boy in the school talks a lot)

UNA: feminine singular. Ej: Una manzana está mala (An apple is spoiled)

UNOS: masculine plural Ej. Unos perros en la calle están hambrientos (Some dogs on the street are hungry)

UNAS: feminine plural. Ej. Unas mujeres son altas otras son bajas. (Some women are tall other short)
