Lines that are parallel to each other have the same slope, thus the equation of the line we are looking for has the same slope as our original equation. Our equation is in slope - intercept (or y = mx + b) form.
y = mx+b
y = 6x + 8
m is equal to the slope. In this case our slope is equal to 6.
We can then use point-slope form to find the equation of this line. Point-slope form is
y-y(1) = m (x - x(1))
Plug in the slope and point (2,8) for x(1),y(1) and you have your answer -
y-y(1) = m (x - x(1))
y - 8 = 6 (x - 2)
