How many vans will be needed to transport all 445 people
1 van holds 8 people - so 10 vans hold 80 people. 11 vans hold 80 people plus 8 more people.
Divide 445 / 8 ---> 55 vans with the need to add one more van to carry the leftover people. This means 56 vans are needed.
OOOOO!!! This looks like a fun one! How I would go about solving this is coming up with an estimate, first. I would start by dividing 445 (number of people) by 8 (people per van) So..... 445/8= 55.625. So you know your answer should be pretty close to that. To get the official answer, you divide 445/8. (55.625) Logically, you know that you cannot have a partial van (or boot people out and make them walk) so that means you must round up to the nearest whole number. That gives you....56! Check that that is close to our estimate. (Yup, it is!) And, Ta da, one word problem solved!

Number of vans needed will be 445 / 8 = 55.625. Since number of vans should be a whole number your answer is 56 vans.
