I would say the apathy that we express on a daily basis. According to the Sublime Object of Ideology by Slavoj Zizek, he mentions the phrase of "They don't know what they're doing but they're doing it anyways", a quite famous line for Marx's Capital explaining the exploitation of fellow workers and exploitation in general. But comparing and modifying it to our situations he says "They KNOW what they are doing, but they're doing it ANYWAYS". It is our blatant contradiction that we do not tend to recognize. We also have to realize also in terms for Americans, the idea of the American dream will stay a dream is because the imperialist power that we once had is fading away, and enacting towards ourselves (Foucault's Boomerang). One more thing I would also like to add is that, we like to do deal with absolutes and the desire to win no matter what cause. Research shown that the current Gen Z population has a higher rate of falling to a political or moral extremity, due to the elimination of our "third place" but also the climate that as made with the recent decades of American politics, with the largest influence of the conservative buzz phrase "lift yourself by your bootstraps" is a sentiment that is still ringing out by our previous generation.
