If you are trying to solve for "z", then the first step is to get all the "z's" together. You can do that by subtracting "2z" from each side. On the left side that will give you "4z - 2z + 2" or "2z + 2" on the right side it will give you "2z - 2z + 4" or "4"
4z + 2 = 2z + 4
-2z -2z
---------------------
2z + 2 = 4
Now, subtract 2 from both sides:
2z + 2 = 4
-2 -2
---------------
2z = 2
Now divide both sides by 2
2z/2 = 2/2
z = 1
