Hey! I'm JP, and I am a History Major at VCU!
The Mexican-American War was the outcome of the United States fervor for Manifest Destiny, but it had many other factors as well. As early as 1825, President Andrew Jackson made attempts to purchase the Northern Mexican Areas (modern day Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, Utah, and California), which Mexico declined. Their initial control of the areas as tenuous as well, having to deal with the indigenous peoples of the region raiding them, namely the Navajo, Comanche, and Apache Nations. Things finally spun out of control in 1836 when American settlers in Mexico rebelled, and further went downhill in 1845 when Texas was annexed by the United States. From there the United States proceeded to push aggressively both South and West to capitulate the Mexican Nation.
