A scale of 1 to 1 would be identical matching sizes, or full size. Small scale depictions generally show less detail than large scale depictions, but make up for it by covering a larger area or telling a bigger view of the true size of the object. In mapping, large scale maps for example show more detail than small scale maps. For example, a 1:10,000-scale map is said to have a larger scale than a 1:100,000-scale map. Therefore the larger the number, the smaller the scale.
