The formula for Force is: F=MA or Force=mass x acceleration. Therefore, the amount of force that needs to be applied to an object depends on the mass of an object which also effects the rate at which it will accelerate. Example: a sports car accelerates (speeds up) faster than an 18-wheeler truck because it has less mass than the truck.
