It would be best practice to work collaboratively. If you have a scheduled session, it's best practice to notify clients in advance, as a reminder. If they do not reply, they may not possibly be available, thus allowing you to avoid to a no- show appointment. If they do reply, it helps that both parties are on the same page, in reference to sessions starting and finishing times.
