How is such a math problem solvable?

I have been trying to solve the following math problem for 30mn and I just can't. Here is the problem, I should add Parenthesis to make the equations true

The first: 18 - 7 + 3 - 1 = 7

The second: 6 + 3^2 + 4^2 = 77

I can't find where to place the Parenthesis to make it true.. It's frustrating me I just can't solve it..
