Question

One number is 27 more than another. The difference of twice the larger minus two – thirds of the smaller is 70. What are the two numbers?

L = S+27

2L - 2S/3 = 70

2(S+27) - (2/3)S = 70

2S +54 - (2/3)S = 70

(8/3)S = 70-54 = 16

S = (3/8)16 = 6

L= 6+27 = 33
