Problem: 3(2x-5) + 2(4-x) = ?
When we look at these problems, we notice we have an integer, also known as a number, outside a pair of parentheses. For this, we must use the distributive property that allows us to multiply the integer to all values inside the parentheses.
Step 1:
(3*2x - 3*5) + 2(4 - x) = ?
(3*2x - 3*5) + (2*4 - 2*x) = ?
Now that we have distributed the 3 and the 2, we can just multiply all the numbers together to make it look a little cleaner.
Step 2:
(6x-15) + (8-2x) = ?
For this step, we can remove the parenthesis and rearrange the values so that the x's are with the x's and the numbers are with the numbers. And then we just solve.
Step 3:
6x - 15 + 8 - 2x = ?
6x - 2x - 15 + 8 = ?
4x-7 = ?
This last answer, 4x-7, cannot be reduced down further, because they both do not have the variable "x".
Answer: 4x-7
