Hey! I'm Israel, a recent graduate from MIT with a BS in Mechanical Engineering and a minor in History. I have had experience as a personal tutor in precalculus, as well as a tutor for nearly 50 students through MIT's ATI program for prospective college students looking to improve their SAT scores. My biggest motivation has been giving back to communities and giving the greatest gift one can receive: knowledge.
My teaching skills are based at the human level, understanding that not every student learns similarly, and adjusting to their specific preference and learning style. Growing up with a younger brother with a learning impairment has helped me develop the patience and empathy to teach children, as well as build a relationship to garner trust and ensure steady results. My strongest skills have been in teaching Math, Science, and History, Chess, and am always looking to learn with my students new tips and skills to help retain information in their studies and hobbies.
Math may just be numbers and letters to some, but I see it as a window into understanding the world around us. My previous experience working in larger and smaller group settings, all while staying vigilant over each individual student's progress. I work problems slowly and methodically, explaining verbally my thought process and the problem solving strategies required for problems. For those students that are more adept, I still care to work through the fundamentals to ensure a solid basis on the subject. My SAT and ACT scores in Math were 36 and 760, respectively, as well as receiving A's (90+) in all Math classes.
I look forward to hearing from prospective students and also encourage younger students to pursue secondary education and provide some testimonials of my time at MIT.
