Beth and Steve are on a carousel. Beth is 7 feet from the center and Steve is right on the edge, 7 feet further from the center than Beth.

  1. Steve's linear speed is only π/3 feet per second. How far is he standing from the center of the carousel?

Hi, Vi, I may misunderstand the question, but if Beth is 7 feet from the center and Steve is seven feet further than Beth, he'd be 14 feet from the center, wouldn't he? His speed wouldn't make a difference. If he were going 1,000 mph, he might fly off, but his distance from the center would be independent of speed (until he is flung away). Bob

Steve is right on the edge, 7 feet further from the center than Beth.


7 feet + 7 feet = 14 feet.

Steve is standing 14 feet from the center of the carousel. It doesn't matter what his linear speed is.
