I take it these points are lon and lat. If so I'm using a trig formula:
a^2+b^2=c^2; so: ((3250-(-72)^2+(2816-3505)^2)^.5=3392.698.............miles.
I've never dealt with negative lon/lat.

asked 09/21/20Craig’s cargo ship must travel from New York City, USA to Southampton, England. The two points are
N(-3250, 2816) and S(-72, 3505) where x represents the miles west of the prime meridian and y represent the
miles north of the equator.
