Hello,
The Silent Period (also called the pre-production period) is a phase in second-language acquisition where the learner does not yet produce but is actively processing the second language.
In other words, it is all about mental activity accrued when learning a second language. Even if the language is not fully comprehended to the point where an ESL learner becomes able to speak it comfortably, the individual is (or may be) able to read the given language silently to themselves, and subsequently understand the newly-learned vocabulary both definitely and verbally on paper. Being able to articulate the language themselves when speaking will then come next.
I hope this answers your question! You definitely do not need to be concerned about experiencing the Silent Period. It is perfectly natural in one's (English) language development no matter who you are. :)
