Do students learn well virtually?

Yes, some are very comfortable in this format and thrive with online classes. For others, however, they struggle with the lack of personal interaction and innovative one on one solutions to obstacles they encounter. I am a retired teacher with 13 years classroom experience and would be happy to work with your child in K - 3 grades. I have just finished working with my kindergarten and third grade grandchildren in Texas and can see first hand the challenges they face. I've found the transition to online tutoring challenging but very rewarding. There is more preparation needed on my part in order to keep the lessons varied and personal.

A skilled tutor will quickly match the student's learning style, and keep lessons personal and active enough to keep the students attention during learning.

Active listening and knowledge of the student's "style" of learning (visual, aural and active/kinesthetic) will help tremendously, along with great technology and online helps.

Certain subjects are more transferrable to the online format. Humanities, such as social studies, reading, writing, and history, tend to do well. It is more intense courses, such as math and science, that become difficult. Learning is now resting mostly on the child's shoulders to maintain motivated and awake during online lessons. However, teachers are struggling too! It is hard making individualized learning experiences for children you have never met.

Yes, I would say everything depends on how effective and engaging the tutor's methodology is. For me, it has worked amazingly good, since my students are always engaged and ready to learn more.
