To find the y intercept set x equal to zero since at the y intercept x is always zero. To find the x intercept set y equal to zero since at the x intercept y is always zero

1) y = x^2 + x -1

y intercept is x(0) + 0 -1=-1

x intercept x^2 +x -1=0 Since this does not factor use the quadratic equation to solve for x x

x = -(1) +/- sqroot( 1^2 -4(1)(-1) all divided by 2= -1+/-sqroot5)2= -1/2 +sqroot 5/2 , -1/2-sqroot5/2
