In this case you would use -5 because of the quadrant in which the terminal side of the angle is located. In the 4th quadrant y coordinates are negative (below the x axis). If you were finding a missing x coordinate and the terminal side was in either the 2nd or 3rd quadrant the missing "x" would be negative.

Thank you so much. You mentioned using the Pythagorean theorem to find -5 but since using that would give you two possible answers, -5 and 5 in this case, in a different situation, how would I know which one to use?09/03/20
