Hi! My name is Yocheved and I am a verified math brain!
The point C 6 units to the right is (1,-3)
The area of a triangle is A = 1/2 • base • height
Base is the difference between the x coordinate of C and B
C = (1,-3)
B = (-5,-3)
Base = 1 - -5 = 1 + 5 = 6
Height is the difference between the y coordinate of A and B
A = (-5,5)
B = (-5,-3)
Height = 5 - -3 = 5 + 3 = 8
Answer
Area = 1/2 • 6 • 8 = 24
You can simplify this method if you realize that when they tell you that point C is 6 units to the right of B that they are giving you your Base value.
