Generally speaking, when you have a doubt, uncertainty, need, or want, you can use subjunctive. You can also consider whether or not an action has been done. An example of this would be: esperamos hasta que lleguen - we'll wait until they arrive.

The indicative mood is most likely what you've been reading, writing, and speaking in for Spanish 1 and Spanish 2; it's used in describing facts, known things, stories, and in similar situations where the speaker understands or feels something to be true. With Spanish 3 comes the subjunctive mood, and this is the mood used when there is doubt or uncertainty expressed in the sentence. Consult with verb conjugation charts for present subjunctive, but let these phrases suggest to you that you need the subjunctive mood:

"No es cierto" ---> "It is not certain..."

"Es posible que" ---> "It is possible that..."

"Es probable que..." ---> "It is probable that..."
