Why has the novel, Don Quixote by Miguel de Cervantes, remained so influential to this day?

Tocando como tema principal la locura, podemos ver una gran calidad estilística. En casi todas las obras de Miguel de Cervantes se contempla el realismo, ya sea en sus novelas ejemplares o en este libro en particular. Pero en Don Quijote se evidencia una ficción para hablar de la realidad

To explain it poignantly, the themes of Don Quixote are universal and timeless. The themes are so important and relatable. The themes of the novel are insanity versus sanity, fantasy versus reality, and right versus wrong. Additional themes are chivalry, romance, honor, imagination, poverty, captivity, and the importance of free will. The old Spanish gentleman, Alonso Quijano, transforms himself into a brave and young hidalgo named Don Quixote. If he can do it, anyone can!!! It is important to keep on dreaming so that the impossible dreams may become concrete realities. Anyone can transform themselves to have more power, privilege, and richness of character and intellect. It just takes some patience, a “calling”, a devoted sidekick like Sancho, and a loyal old mule like Rocinante. 

 

Most people look into a mirror and see only their own reflection and only reality. But, chivalrous knights like Don Quixote, look into a mirror and see who they may be and not necessarily who they actually are. Or are they? Don Quixote must have actually been brave, romantic, and in search of adventure because he truly inspired his comrades in the novel. He inspired Sancho, Dorothea, Cardenio, and many others. He inspired me! And, his story continues to inspire all of us today!
