Case study

Universe Ltd is a large company. Universe Ltd is using the Functional Structure to operate its internal operation as well as businesses. Anna is working in the Finance Department. Recently, she felt quite demotivated due to the following issues.

(a) Universe Ltd recently obtained a big project. As this is a big project, it requires all the department in the company to provide support for this project. Hence, the Chief Executive Officer (Andrew) decided that each department would need to allocate two person to support the project. Anna was one of them. For the beginning, Anna found it interesting to be able to work in a new team. After one month, Anna feel stressed out because her immediate superior, Ivan (Finance Manager) was having conflict with Ember (Project Manager). Ivan and Ember both having different opinion in terms of budget allocation. Ivan’s direction is to minimize cost but Ember was having the opinion that more budget are needed to ensure the success of this big project. Anna was torn in between, she did not know which instruction she should follow. Due to this, Anna was really stressed.

Hello ...this is very brief description of the problem. But I have my 2 cents.

1. It looks like the finance people are not forgiving when it comes to estimating budget for fuzzy issues for executing the project and have not estimated the scalar value of the budget for the project properly.
2. When estimating project, budgets should be set aside for capital investment for obtaining clearances from governing bodies to grant permission for moving forward and investing infrastructure for project execution. Every different country has a different infrastructure framework investment environment.
3. The main issue could be fixed by personal involvement of Andrew in knowing how much capital should be set aside for non-infrastructural investment (obtaining business licenses, etc)
