You can make the first sentence an equation by using “w” and “L” for width and length.
Hence, it says “the width of the rectangle is 11 inches less than it’s width”, so that means subtract.
So your first equation becomes:
W= L - 11
The second equation, you need to use the formula to find the area of a rectangle, which is A = W * L.
We know the area of the rectangle is 80 and W is L-11. We can now replace A with 80 and W with L-11 and the equation should look like this :
80 = (L-11)L
You would have to multiply the factors on the right side and it the resulting equation becomes a quadratic equation. Then, you would have to factor the quadratic equation.
