Hi Sitora! I'd be happy to work with you on this question. I wonder if you are touching on the theory of allostasis, which is the process by which the body regains homeostasis in the wake of psychological or physiological stressors. There are a number of causes for allostasis to lose its efficacy, one of which being the exposure to chronic stress. When this happens, the hypothalamus loses the ability to activate something called the negative feedback loop, which leads to an increase in cortisol in the body. This is correlated to a number of physical health issues including weight gain, high blood pressure, and a weakened immune system. This is a complex phenomenon- I'd be happy to provide further information on the mechanisms that underlie the stress response, including the ways chronic stress could cause this system to go haywire. Feel free to reach out if you'd like to discuss this further!
