Hello Tim,
Question: A frog is climbing out of a well that is 11 feet deep. The frog can climb 3 feet per hour but then it rests for an hour, during which it slips back 1 foot. How long will it take for the frog to get out of the well?
Answer:
In first 2 hours it covers (3-1) = 2 ft ( as it goes 2ft forward and 1 ft backwards )
In next 2 hours it cover (3-1) = 2 ft
Total distance covered in 4 hours = 4 ft
So effective speed = 1 ft per hour
Thus, to cover a total distance of 11 ft
time required will be 11 hours
