x = full tank
x - x/2 = amount left after diving
(x - x/2) - x/6 = amount left after diving and exploring
x - x/2 - x/6 = x - (3/6)x - (1/6)x = x - (4/6)x = x - (2/3)x = (1/3)x
He is left with 1/3 of a tank.

Pablo dives, and uses up 1/2 of the tank. He is left with only 1/2 of the tank. Then he explores and uses 1/6 of the tank. But he had only 1/2 of a tank to start exploring with, so you have to subtract 1/6 of a tank from 1/2 of a tank to get the amount left. 1/2-1/6 = 3/6-1/6=2/6=1/3. So 1/3 of a tank remains.05/22/20

Thank you! If you can it would be awesome if you could explain it in a more 5th grade level. Again thanks05/22/20
