To solve this, you simplify one of your equations and isolate one of the variables. If we want Y, then we isolate x so that we can replace it.
x = 1+2y : We plug the right side of this equation in for x in the second equation.
(1+2y) + 4y = 7 : Simplify and solve for y.
6y = 6 --> y = 1
