The sum of two numbers is three times the difference of the two numbers. The death the greater number is five more than the lesser number. Can someone help me out please

Solution: where a and b are the two numbers ( a + b ) = 3 ( a - b ) let a be the greater number and b the lesser number then, a = 5 + b expand first equation, a + b = 3a - 3b, rearrange a - 3a = -3b - b, -2a = -4b, a = 2b a = 2b .... eq1 a = 5 + b ...eq 2 set a = a, 2b = 5 + b, 2b - b = 5, b = 5, a = 2(5)=10
