If 7x + 3y = 0, then (0,0) lies on the line.. The point (3, -7) is also on the line.
Draw a right triangle in quadrant 4 with vertices (0,0), (3,0), and (3,-7). The right angle has vertex (3,0) and the hypotenuse lies along the line 7x + 3y = 0 and has length √[32 + 72] = √58. If θ is the acute angle of the triangle with vertex at (0,0), then cosθ = 3 / √58.
