You are riding a roller coaster when a shoe falls off your foot. The function y=170-16t² represents the height  (in feet) of the shoe  seconds after it falls off your foot. The shoe lands on the top of a 49-foot-tall building. After how many seconds does the shoe hit the building?

y=160-16t^2

y(1)=160-16(1^2)=144

y(2)=160-16(2^2)=160-64=96

y(3)=160-16(3^2)=160-144=14

y is a function of t. The answer for t is in between 2 and 3.

49=160-16T^2
