You would use the imperfect (imperfecto) because it is not an action that began and stopped but an ongoing time and descriptive.

Notice that in English, it would be more common the say " where have you been last Sunday" . Meaning is the same, but the uses of the verbs of two languages changes a lot. Regards, Maria
