Ben is 30 years old and daniel is 2 years old. how many years will it take until ben is only 3 times as old as daniel

30 + y = 6 + 3y [now subtract "y" from both sides to get:

30 = 6 + 2y [now subtract 6 from both sides to get:

24 = 2y [now divide both sides by 2 to get:

y = 12

So 12 years go by making Ben 42 and Daniel 14
