The dimensions of the juice box shown are 1.5 in by 3 in and a height of 4 in. The juice box is a rectangular prism. What is the volume of the juice box shown? The company gets an order to make a jumbo juice box that has twice the volume as the one shown. Could you double the current dimensions to make the jumbo juice box at the suggested volume? Explain.

Juice Box Volume = (3)(1.5)(4) = 18 cu in

DOUBLE the length, width, and height:

Volume = (6)(3)(8) = 144 cu in.

But, 144 cu in is 8 TIMES THE VOLUME OF THE ORIGINAL

JUICE BOX.

We need a VOLUME OF 36 cu in, which is twice that of 18 cu in.

We could use LENGTH = 4 in, WIDTH = 2 in, and HEIGHT = 6 in.

Volume = (4)(2)(6) = 36 cu in
