The Democratic-Republicans were a political party that lasted from 1792-1825. 3rd-5th U.S. Presidents Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, and James Monroe all belonged to the Democratic-Republican party. The Democratic-Republicans essentially upheld Republicanism governmentally. But the one faction of the political party that was Democratic in its values and outlook ultimately caused the twofold political party to fold, which led to the founding of the two separate major Democratic and Republican political parties.
