What was the Monroe Doctrine

The Monroe Doctrine was introduced by President James Monroe in 1823. The doctrine was written to enforce actions against colonizing in foreign countries and territories. It was also implemented in order to keep the United States neutral and out of wars that didn't concern them. It also stated that any foreign countries that tried to colonize the rest of North and South America would be seen as aggression and would warrant US intervention.
