If the pH is 7, the solution is considered neutral. However if the pH is greater than 7 the solution will be considered acidic and if the pH is less than 7 the solution is basic.
The pH scale has a range of 0-14. The pH of a solution is the measure of the solutions acidity or alkalinity. A good pH indicator is litmus paper which has been treated with a natural water soluble dye and can test how much acid or alkalinity exists within a solution
