- Birth weight: mothers exposed to famine during the third trimester of pregnancy gave birth to babies with low birth weight, compared to the control subjects. Mothers exposed to famine during their first trimester gave birth to babies of high birth weight, compared to the control group.
- Babies exposed to famine had a higher risk of schizophrenia as adults
- Babies exposed to famine had higher levels of LDL cholesterol as adults
Other consequences included higher risk for obesity, higher blood pressure, higher risk of depression, cognitive deficits, and lower scores on self-reports of quality of life
