People in New Jersey are usually associated with similar cultural stereotypes to New Yorkers. They are often steterotyped as rude, loud, and mocked for a heavy mid-Atlantic accent. Recently, many of these perceptions have been derived from reality TV shows and programs. However, New Jerseyans are known for their state pride, maintaining strong connections to their hometown, and to the Jersey Shore in the summer. English is the most common spoken language throughout the state. A large minority speak a mix of other languages including Spanish and Italian. Roman Catholicism is the largest religious affiliation in New Jersey, followed by Judaism. The largest Protestant denominations include Methodist, Presbyterian, and Episcopal.
