The House of Representatives is the congressional body responsible for conducting the actual process of impeachment following an investigation, and is passed with a simple majority vote.

Following the impeachment, however, it is then the responsibility of the Senate to conduct a trial and decide whether or not to remove a president from office. The conviction and subsequent removal necessitates a majority vote of the Senate (or 2/3).
