Saber y Conocer ( To Know) Verbs

When learning these two verbs that sound different but have the same meaning can be a bit confusing if you don't know how to use the proper conjugation. Here's an example?

Saber - is to know how to do something knowing info

Conocer- is to be familiar with a place or person

The main differences are:

Saber-

to know how to do something

To know facts and information

Saber is the only one that can be used with a verb

Conocer-

to know about something (Yo conozco el libro "Don Quijote"

To know people places and things

Conocer is the only one that can be used with "a" ( the personal a)

For to know facts and information and to know about something, consider how you can say you know the alphabet- that's a skill so that would be saber

You know the capital of Spain- that's knowledge so that's saber

With information like places, books or movies, etc., you don't know how to do the book or you don't consider that kind of information "memorization" or "knowledge" so you're just familiar with it.

Yo conozco el libro DQ.

Yo conozco la película Bajo la misma luna.

Yo conozco Madrid.
